Information Campaign for Tangipahoa School Board Millage Proposals
In late 2017, the Tangipahoa Parish School Board placed three new property tax proposals on the ballot to help fund teacher raises and facility improvements. The school system needed an integrated communications campaign to target and inform various groups about the facts and benefits of the proposals. Those groups included voters, community stakeholders, teachers and support staff.
The ‘Learn More’ campaign plays on a double meaning. The print collateral and website offered information but also supported the mission of the school system, which is to ultimately help students ‘learn more.’ The colors and logo were based on existing Tangipahoa Schools branding and call to mind the building and improvements phase that would follow.
Melismatic Designs LLC conceptualized, wrote copy for and designed a mailer, trifold teacher brochure, push card, companion website (which included detailed reports for those truly wishing to ‘learn more’), newspaper print ads, digital animated graphics and social media graphics with blurbs and a hashtag. While the proposals did not go into effect, the effort produced more support for school property taxes at the voting booth than had been seen over the last few decades.
Contracted work for Valence LLC of New Orleans.
